Title: Head Coach: Women's Basketball / Teacher Location: Horatio High School Reports to: Athletic Director & Principal Supervises: Students and assistant coaches Job Goal: Through sports and athletic competitions, provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. By teaching teamwork and self-improvement, enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Skills required: Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess some knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. Duties and Responsibilities: The Head Coach is responsible for organizing the sport program assigned. The coach will plan and conduct practices, motivate student athletes, and instruct student athletes in game strategies and techniques. Specifically, the Head Coach is responsible for these essential duties: 1. Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport. 2. Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions. 3. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development. 4. Works with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition. 5. Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary. 6. Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. 7. Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. 8. Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities. 9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times. 10. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met. 11. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. 12. Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student and to inform them of program policies. 13. Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program. 14. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. 15. Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations. 16. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. 17. Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season. 18. Participates and/or organizes special activities to include parent meetings, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies. 19. Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, travel rosters, and other related records. 20. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. 21. Provide timely and accurate game reporting to the Arkansas Activities Association and other relevant performance outlets such as MaxPreps. Classroom Teacher Supervises: Students Job Goal: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Skills required: Knowledge of subjects assigned. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Duties and Responsibilities: The teacher shall be under the general direction of the Superintendent of Schools and immediately responsible to the principal for executing the policies of the Board as they relate to the function of the school, to the classroom, and to the immediate contact with pupils and parents. The teacher’s specific responsibilities shall be: To direct and evaluate the learning experiences of the pupil in both curricular and extra-curricular activities in accordance with school policies. To provide guidance to the pupil which will promote his welfare and his proper educational development. To seek professional aid of the school principal and supervisory personnel. To be responsible for child accounting. To maintain liaison with the parents. To administer the classroom program. To provide for the care and protection of school property. To participate in the business and activities of the faculty. To cooperate with and participate in the planning and the evaluation of the school program. To notify supervising principal as early as possible when it is necessary to be absent from school. To maintain a cordial and workable relationship with colleagues. To inform supervising principal of any action or situation which has affected or may affect the normal classroom activities and which requires supervisory attention. To study and comply with School Board policy. To perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Valid Arkansas teaching certificate with required Arkansas Activities Association endorsements for sport assigned.
